Expo Turkey by Qatar is held for the second time this year by its main partner, MÜSİAD, in Qatar’s capital city, Doha. With the participation of 112 Turkish companies, the logistics, information technology, food and health tourism sectors were at the forefront, especially the real estate and construction sectors. The opening of the trade show held on January 17-19 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), took place with wide participation. The opening was held with the participation of the Customs and Trade Minister Bülent TÜFENKÇİ, the Qatar Economy and Trade Minister H.E Sheikh Ahmed Bin Jassim Al Thani, The President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Rıfat Hisarcıkoğlu and the Chairman of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD) Abdurrahman Kaan.
Huge Interest in Turkish Products and Turkish Companies
At the opening of the trade show, Bülent Tüfenkci, the Minister of Customs and Trade stated that Turkish companies almost invaded Qatar and said that Turkish products and Turkish companies are drawing a lot of attention in Qatar.
Tüfenkci said, “Our country, Turkey, should use these opportunities. We should carry out projects together that will enhance the permanent and sustainable business cooperation. We have to be permanent by learning well how to do business here.”
Bülent Tüfenkçi said the trade show will contribute to Turkey’s exportations and mentioned the interest towards the Turkish products. On a comment on positive discrimination towards Turkish companies in Qatar, Tüfenkci said that the authorities had told them “they will give priority to Turkish companies”.
After the embargo on Qatar Tüfenkci said that Turkey is taking the country’s side, that although not yet certain the trade between the two countries in 2017 reached 900 million dollars and stressed that this figure will keep increasing.
“Qatar’s door is always open to Turkish companies”
The Qatari Minister of Economy and Trade Sheikh Ahmad bin Casim bin Muhammad Al Sani said that the relationship between the two countries is improving day by day and that they will further develop their business cooperation.
Al Sani, “Qatar’s door is always open to Turkish companies. We are waiting for Turkish investors. We will proceed not only in 1-2 areas but at least in 6-7 sectors. We also privilege Turkish companies and we are already considering new privileges in the near future. ”
“The Trade Show Is Creating Great Opportunities Between the Two Countries”
The trade show organizer in Qatar, the Chairman of Medyacity Hakan Kurt stated that the expo has created great opportunities between the two countries. Kurt said, “The first trade show we organized last year had an intense participation from both Turkey and Qatar. This year, many Turkish companies leader in the logistics, information technology, food and health tourism sectors in the forefront and especially the real estate and construction sectors participated to the trade show we organized with Turkey’s most important business organization, MÜSİAD, as our main partner. 2. With our trade show Expo Turkey by Qatar, we aim to increase the annual exportation volume between the two countries by 5 billion dollars in the following years and increase the annual direct investment by 3 billion dollars with the support of 7 major sector companies. ”
The Business Connections Are Satisfactory
The President of MÜSIAD Abdurrahman Kaan said that compared to other Gulf countries, Qatar has a more specific position for Turkey “with Qatar, our connections are even stronger today and commercially speaking they have reached a significant dimension. The trade volume between Turkey and Qatar have been increasing in the last 10 years from 408 million dollars to 710 million dollars. Given the per capita national income, Qatar is the richest country in the world. In addition, the trust and stability environment offered by the business world plays a major role in Qatar’s recognition as an important and valuable trading partner. Today, we are talking about Qatar, one of the countries that, despite its half-century-old history, has invested in more than 100 countries about 335 billion dollars, has managed to use its resources in the best way and has made the most investments in education. This is a terrific success. And again, when we look into the business connections between Turkey and Qatar we can see a satisfactory view.”
The Goal: To Increase the Exportation Volume to 5 Billion Dollars
Underlining that the 2nd edition of the trade show held this year will strengthen the relations between the two countries Kaan said, “with the participation of 112 of our Turkish companies, the EXPO, thanks to the mutual investments and previous satisfactorily ending business operations, will open doors to already known investors as well as new investments and business cooperations. With successful organizations like this, I hope that we will increase the exportation volume between the two countries to 5 billion dollars and the annual direct investment to 3 billion dollars. ”
The Technology and Innovation Emphasis
Emphasizing that Islamic countries do not place enough emphasis to technology and innovation, Kaan said, “As Muslim countries, we have to break through to be able to keep up with information and technology. To take place among countries with a competitive economy, it has become a necessity for Islamic countries to create skilled manpower and technology-based production. In order to achieve that, investments in research and development should be emphasized and studies carried out in this direction should be supported. As business people, we are aware of the potential of Muslim countries, Turkey being in the first place, and as MÜSİAD, I want to express that we are always ready to do our best to bring this potential to light.”
